越生町
越生（おごせ）は難読地名の代表格です。その語源については諸説ありますが、平野と山地の接点にあたる越生からは、秩父に向かうにも、上州に向かうにも尾根や峠を越えなければなりません。それに由来した『尾根越し（おねごし）』という言葉から変化したという説が有力視されています。（越生町公式サイトより）
